The Science of Industrial Hemp pre-conference tour is a must and will be a beneficial complement to the conference, providing a comprehensive overview of university and industry activities that are currently occurring in the state of Colorado.
In conjunction with The Science of Industrial Hemp Conference July 28 & 29, 2016, a guided bus tour will be offered Wednesday, July 27. This optional tour will include access to an actual crop in the field, as well as small group networking and real-time updates of research from the current university and industry experts of industrial hemp.
Industrial hemp has been attracting a significant amount of interest from diverse groups interested in this sustainable crop. Legalization of growing industrial hemp is allowing for research to expand and develop in many directions.
Research interest in this crop is not limited to the agronomics; there is also strong interest in products that can be produced from the plant. Some examples of products are construction materials, food products, and various health products. This sustainable crop has many benefits and uses, and contains good potential as a resource of future food, fiber, and health products.

The first tour stop is the Colorado State Agricultural Research Development Education Center (ARDEC) just north of Fort Collins. Thomas Holtzer, host, will provide opening remarks and updates will be provided by key researchers. The small group with then tour a hemp plot. This one-of-a-kind experience will provide an opportunity to ask questions about current research programs in Colorado.

Update: The second stop has been moved to a New West Genetics field plot in Fort Collins which is more accessible to tour attendees.
The second tour stop is the New West Genetics research farm. With Dr. John McKay hosting, attendees will learn how this company is helping to shape this emerging crop and develop cultivars that suit the industry.

The third and final tour stop is back at the host hotel, Embassy Suites, in downtown Denver, where attendees will meet Rich Beck, an innovative Colorado hemp grower and processor from Chimney Rocks Farms, who will present an overview of his industrial hemp production greenhouse operation along with a personal tour of his portable CBD extraction laboratory. The tour will wrap up with John Mizicko from Eurofins STA Laboratories giving insider updates on necessary quality components in regards to seed and plant analyses.
Update: The extraction lab is not able to join us; Rich will present from our meeting room at Embassy Suites.
