This award is presented to an agronomic, crop, or soil scientist that has addressed grave challenges in African agriculture for a specific, exceptionally significant, individual achievement in African agriculture. Efforts may be through research, applied science, or ecosystem approaches, and may address issues in African agriculture including, but not limited to, soil fertility, crop nutrition, agronomy, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and value chain optimization. The award is sponsored by OCP North America a recently-created subsidiary of the OCP Group, a leading, global plant-nutrition company headquartered in Morocco.

An award of $3,000 will be conferred to one senior scientist for a specific, exceptionally significant, individual achievement in African agriculture. A one-year membership in ASA, CSSA, and SSSA will be provided to the recipient, if not a current member. Annual Meeting registration will be waived for the recipient of this award. Nominees must have at least 15 years’ experience in their respective field, with quantifiable and measurable impact of their contributions to the greater field of African agriculture.

All nominations must be submitted in English.

Reference letters from organizations must be signed by an executive officer.

Evaluation:

  1. Evidence of credibility, integrity, and professionalism.
  2. Evidence of quantifiable and measurable impact of their contributions to the field of African agriculture.
  3. Evidence of the nominee’s contributions that result in, but not limited to, improved soil fertility, crop nutrition, agronomy, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and value chain optimization.
  4. Creativity and innovation as reflected through the scientist’s overall contribution.
